Yoga Sports Training

Join us for an 1.5 hr long yoga sports training session with International Champions, Gloria Suen and Joseph Encinia!

In these sessions we will teach you how to prepare for a USA Yoga competition. Yoga Sports training focuses on increasing the strength and flexibility of your spine in forward bending, backward bending, traction and twisting. It also focuses on building strong upper body and leg strength for balancing postures and inversions, all while correcting the alignment of your skeletal and muscular system.

Champion's Corner

Gloria Suen

I started practicing yoga in March 2008, shortly after moving to Singapore for work. As a former runner and two time marathon finisher (NYC and Paris), I was looking for a physically challenging activity that would be less jarring on my body. Honestly, I looked to yoga because of Madonna's cut arms.

A former colleague connected me with her yoga champion cousin, Ky Ha, who had also recently moved to Singapore to teach yoga. I bought a one week unlimited beginners pass at the studio and practiced three classes in three days. After the third class, I remember feeling so clean inside and out (after my shower, of course). Thus began my journey.

I am so thankful for the yoga championships for providing a forum for me to take my hatha yoga practice to another level, and more importantly for the yoga community that I was able to meet and be a part of.I am also forever grateful to all my teachers, and proud to teach two of the yoga sports training classes at Nationals.

Support and Join USA YOGA

The USA Yoga Federation has completed an exciting Regional season with our last two Championships in Florida & Hawaii this month! This year's Regional season introduced USA Yoga Athletes to a new competition format brought to us by the International Yoga Sports Federation. The new format allowed our athletes to compete with their choice of difficulty in each compulsory category, giving the option to customize routines. It will be exciting to see the routines this new format will bring to the National Championships.

Each year, USA Yoga sponsors an annual National Yoga Asana Championship, which is now in its 13th year. With the same commitment, discipline, skill, and dedication needed to succeed in our regional events, yoga athletes from all over the country will gather to compete for this year's USA Yoga Champion in their respected divisions. A judges' clinic, designed for athletes, coaches, judges, and spectators as well, is offered on Thursday night to educate and master the sport of yoga asana. Sign up here.
